Nature and Characteristic of folk and Ethinc Dances

This article generally aimed to determine the forms and significance of Philippine dance in our society. The Philippine dances are reflective of our national cultural identity that mirrors the Filipino psyche and aspirations, as an expressive folk art, dancing depicts the nations sentiments and creative spirit, it’s exemplifies the vicissitudes of Filipino life through the centuries.
Dancing is an integral part of life itself.  As long as people exist, the desire to dance in response to emotion is a physiological fact. Enjoyment is the only reason why people dance today. Dancing leads to learn poise, manners and how to relate with people.
Dance is the expression of one self, is an expression through patterned movements. It is with this patterning that traditionally separates folk dance forms from other dance forms. Dance is a way of expressing what a person thinks or feels. Dance is an expression of an intensified sense of life, arising from an inner perception that stimulates both mind and the body it is man’s natural and primitive means of expression the trust expression of the people is in its dances and its music. Sometimes most folk dances originated as traditional dances of a country, they evolved from the everyday activities and experiences of the people in the past people developed traditional dances to celebrate events such as birth, marriage and even death, in some places, young males conduct courtship through dances. Some folk dances are performed in the belief that they can cure diseases people can also obtain favours like a good harvest , or celebrate success in the battle , authorities see no difference between folk dances and ethnic dances which are found among the ethnic  groups all over the Philippines these dances are the ritual dances, which  have something to do with the spirit  the life cycle dances, which celebrate an individual’s birth, baptism ,courtship , wedding and  death and the occupational dances, which imitate the occupations of the people in the locality. Nature and characteristics of folk and ethnic dances aims to give the meaning.
